Speaking about the need for humanity to “grow up” about the climate issue, Johnson stated:
“By the way, on the subject of planting trees, we're going to do millions in the UK, but I was absolutely blown away: I invite everybody to follow the example of Imran Khan of Pakistan, who has pledged to plant 10 billion trees in Pakistan alone [...] I think it's very important that we in the developed world recognize our obligation to help less developed countries down this path, in all these technologies.”
The British Prime Minister's remarks emphasized the need to limit the global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius above per-industrial levels. He has been pushing governments in the developed world to implement more stringent cuts on emissions and spend more to help poorer economies of the world in the process of becoming more environmentally friendly.
