The AML chief said that the government has resorted to disobeying judicial rulings. The judiciary must uphold and carry out its judgments, he stressed.
Rasheed claimed that civil war and turmoil will break out in society if the government disregards court rulings.
Fazlur Rahman intends to dismantle the democratic system because he himself is not a member of it, he claimed. If someone abstains from voting or flees, it is none of the Supreme Court's concern, he added.
Sheikh Rasheed joked that it was up to the government to decide whether it wanted to be overthrown through the legal system or eliminated through elections.
According to the former minister, the government is unable to face the public and hence cannot contest elections. If Rs21 billion for holding polls is not released, the government would be dismissed, he added.
Rasheed claimed that while the government wants to degrade the court, the rulers will ultimately be disgraced. Come what may, the judiciary will triumph, and the rule of law and the constitution will win out, he added.
On Sunday, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman stated that the Supreme Court (SC), rather than "uniting," is "pressurizing" politicians to unite.
The JUI-F chief made his statement as the ruling coalition tried to persuade Fazl to meet with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan. The effort also follows the Supreme Court’s call for the government to speak with the PTI chief about elections.
While talking to a private news channel, he said, "We disagree with the justification and philosophy offered for holding negotiations with Imran Khan at this time. He questioned why the PTI leader should be treated like a bowdler by the government and why negotiations with someone who bankrupted the country should be held.
