Located at the centre of the college campus, the new four-story complex covers a total area of 125,000 sq. ft and includes three laboratories, for pathology and chemistry, two examination halls, eight rooms for professors, and two auditoriums with the capacity to hold 450 people each. The construction cost $5 million.
Dr. Maqbool Ahmad graduated from King Edward Medical College in 1968 and migrated to the United States in 1972 where he works as an ophthalmologist He operates a chain of clinics in Carbondale, Marion and Murphysboro in southern Illinois. His two sons are also eye doctors and they work with their father.
Dr. Maqbool Ahmad is driven by the belief that ‘the best way to alleviate poverty is through education.’ In addition to his recent project in Lahore, he has charities in the US and Somalia. He has contributed to the schools in his own village and in Maurusipur, in District Toba Teg Singh where he has made a chemistry lab and an information technology (IT) lab. He is also donating an IT lab to the girls' high school and repairing the school building in his village. He has given 800 scholarships to children in Punjab and the number of children going to school in his village has doubled.
He has also built a vocational centre Maurusipur, where the local population can learn skills related to plumbing, electrical work, and cell phone repair, among others.
In the US, he has contributed towards a foundation working with abused children, the construction of Mosque in Carbondale, and has also given scholarships to children in Illinois.
