A shocking incident in Sujawal district has sparked outrage after a Hindu woman was allegedly humiliated and assaulted by members of her community over a property dispute. The victim, identified as Lajwanti Devi, later attempted self-immolation in distress but was rescued by her relatives.
According to reports, a group led by Dr. Hoat Kumar allegedly subjected Lajwanti to torture and public humiliation when she tried to prevent them from demolishing a wall of her house. Speaking at a press conference, Lajwanti, wife of Arjan Kumar, claimed that her family had been living on the property for over 60 years. However, Dr. Hoat and his supporters argue that the land belongs to a local Hindu temple.
Lajwanti accused Dr. Hoat and his associates of misusing religious sentiment to intimidate and disgrace her. A former president of the local Hindu Panchayat backed her claims, stating that the plot was private property and not linked to the temple. The incident has deeply shaken the local Hindu community, raising concerns over internal disputes and the treatment of vulnerable individuals.
Dr. Hoat, however, maintained that the land was intended for temple use and insisted that they were only attempting to remove an illegal structure. The conflicting claims have intensified tensions within the community.
Lajwanti has called on the Chief Minister of Sindh and other authorities to take immediate action, urging them to ensure justice and prevent further victimisation.
