Port city

Madam,

The Senate Standing Committee on Planning Development and Special Initiatives on January 3 ordered that work on roads and railway network to connect Gwadar with the rest of the country be completed as soon as possible. The Gwadar Development Authority direction general also gave a presentation on the master plan for the port city.

The committee was told that the master plan intended to promote sustainable development and provide means to develop Gwadar as a special economic district. The committee was told that although there were hopes of making Gwadar a smart city, electricity supply and high speed internet were still not available in the area.

I believe the city should be planned properly and the government should set long term priorities to make Gwadar a smart city. The city and the port will provide the country many benefits. But before it can reap these benefits, many steps need to be taken.

Fatima Hussain,

Turbat.

Organ donation

Madam,

Pakistan is a big country with a large population. Here, it appears that there is no culture of organ donation which can help so many people. Very few individuals have shown courage to donate their organs. One of them was Abdul Sattar Edhi, a great personality who donated his corneas to two blind patients. In Pakistan, organ donation is considered to be some kind of evil practice, even though it is common in other Muslim countries such as Saudi Arbia and Iran. It is unfortunate that Pakistan does not have laws for organ donation nor is any information available about it.

I request the government of Pakistan to encourage a culture of selflessness and create laws for organ donation. It will save many lives.

Hangul Murad,

Dasht Balnigwar.

World War III?

Madam,

We can see from the situation in USA and Iran that a terrible war is not too far away. Iran is angry about the killing of their general Qassem Soleimani by American forces. President Donald Trump of the USA has said that Soleimani was a terrorist who killed many Americans. Iran does not agree with this position. This is why Iran targeted the US military. Donald Trump responded with more sanctions on Iran. Many people believe World War III is possible between these two countries since Iran is gunning for revenge.

By starting long wars, no one will be a winner. Pakistan should play a role in promoting peace, not just in the region, but the rest of the world. I urge the prime minister to be proactive in handling in this delicate situation as our country is uniquely placed to play the role of mediator.

Rahmatullah Shafiq,

Kalatuk, Kech.
