Human rights activist and journalist Arsalan Khan was forcibly picked up from his house in the Clifton area of Karachi allegedly by Rangers personnel in the wee hours of Friday.

According to a video testament given by his wife, Khan was picked up from his house at 4:30 AM by 14-15 armed officers of the Rangers, who were brandishing AK-47 firearms. Khan's wife said that the men took her husband by force in front of their children.

When the men were questioned as to where they were taking her husband, they told her that they were detaining him because he 'talks and posts a lot on social media'. His whereabouts are unknown since last night.

Arsalan was an Urdu speaking journalist, who was an outspoken critic of Muhajjir enforced disappearances. He had worked as a broadcast journalist with Geo News, AbbTakk and ATV, and frequently spoke up about missing persons, democratic rights and oppression.

Social media users, including politicians and the journalism fraternity, have expressed outrage over the unlawful detention of the journalist and social worker.
