A police constable identified as Kamal Ahmad was shot dead during a raid at a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader's house in Model Town, when an unidentified man opened fire from the PTI representative’s rooftop.

The developments took place on Monday night, during a raid at PTI activist Sajid Hassan's house. Kamal was shot dead when an unidentified man opened fire on him from a rooftop.

Lahore DIG Operations Sohail Chaudhry said that the police were rounding up the suspects who were "taking the law into their own hands and doing hooliganism".

The DIG said that after being shot, the police constable succumbed to his wounds by the time he reached the hospital. "A bullet hit the upper part of the constable's chest, which is a very critical area. A lot of effort was made to save him but when we reached the hospital, he had become frail."

The FIR filed regarding the incident does not mention the raid being linked to arresting PTI leaders, however it does mention the alleged shooter.

According to the FIR, police showed up to Sajid Hussain's house at 1:40 am. Shortly afterwards, "two armed men", Sajid Hussain and Akrama Bukhari appeared on the terrace of the house and questioned the police.

When the police informed them that they were conducting a search operation regarding tenancy, the two armed men got angry and Hussain instructed his son Bukhari to open fire at the policemen, fatally wounding Kamal Ahmed, said the FIR.

Meanwhile the federal government and the PTI have been trading blame on the incident.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the incident was proof that Imran Khan 'was a terrorist'. "The firing on the police has proved that this is not a political activity, it is proof that they do not want a peaceful march," he added.

PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry on the other hand referred to the incident in a tweet and said that this was the result of using the police to conduct illegal raids, adding that this was another addition to the 'crimes committed by the Sharif family'.
