No Saudi NRO
The leader of the opposition in the Punjab Assembly, PTI’s Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed, according to Daily Nawa-i-Waqt (30 October 2017) expressed his view that world powers including Saudi Arabia had refused to back Nawaz Sharif, and that he was not going to get an NRO from anywhere. He went on to speculate that the Saudis might have been angered by Sharif’s return from exile after just 7 years, which they might have seen as a breach of their understanding with Pervez Musharraf.

The Chairman of the Sunni Ittehad Council Pakistan, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, was quoted by Daily Nawa-i-Waqt (02 November 2017) as saying that if a ‘minus one’ were to be prevented, a “minus all” situation arise. He went on to say that the time for a stringent and awe-inspiring process of accountability (sakht aur khauf-naak ehtesab) had come. He further opined that the process of accountability was necessary before elections and that if the disqualified former Prime Minister did not end his policy of colliding with the state (riyasat se takraanay ki policy), there could be a ‘quick march’ before March.
