Reports of journalist Arshad Sharif's death by gunshot to the head surfaced early morning on Monday, and the Pakistani journalist fraternity has taken to social media to express their condemnations and condolences for the killing.

Journalist Kashif Abbasi said that Sharif's death was 'beyond heartbreaking' and 'painful' in a touching tweet.

Hamid Mir, quoting a tweet by the slain journalist in which he was thanking Mir for his support of press freedom, said that he had met Sharif a few months ago alongside Kashif Abbasi and Waseem Badami.
