India may be sending weapons to Israel as part of its ongoing offensive against Hamas in order to "return the favor" for Tel Aviv's assistance to New Delhi during the 1999 Kargil War, said ex-Israeli ambassador to India Daniel Carmon.
According to India Today, Carmon stated in an interview with Israel's Ynetnews that the occupying nation was one of the few who sent weaponry to India during its war with neighboring Pakistan.
The envoy, who served in New Delhi from 2014 to 2018, stated that "the Indians frequently remind us that Israel was there for them during the Kargil conflict. The Indians remember this, and they may now be repaying the favor."
According to the Indian media outlet, during the 1999 conflict, Tel Aviv provided New Delhi with military supplies and equipment such as guided missiles and drones.
The former ambassador's words come as news emerges that India has sent drones and artillery rounds to Israel to assist the occupying forces in their fight with Gaza, as supplies run low owing to the months-long conflict.
Back in February, news surfaced that Israel had received Hermes 900 drones produced in India's Hyderabad.
Israel constructed the Hyderabad factory to produce supplies for the Indian military, and it reportedly delivered around 20 drones for use by the Israeli Defense Forces.
However, New Delhi has neither confirmed the report nor issued a statement on the former ambassador's comments.
