Former US President Donald Trump has warned of "death and destruction" if he is charged with a crime, hours after prosecutors investigating his payment to a porn star said they 'won't be intimidated'.

The drama surrounding the possible indictment over hush money paid to Stormy Daniels took a new twist Wednesday after a jury failed to hold its session as expected, pushing the verdict potentially to next week.

The speculation that the historic indictment awaits Trump has been gaining momentum ever since he said he was expecting to be apprehended.

But the grand jury session was postponed, unnamed LEA officials told US news outlets, but stopped short of giving a reason. According to The New York Times, such delays are not unusual.

Meanwhile, barricades were set up outside the Trump Tower and police remain on high alert, as a possible indictment looms. Tension peaked on Tuesday when Trump announced he would be held, but wasn’t.

The panel usually meets on Thursdays as well but Insider, which reported the canceled meeting, quoted a source as saying it may not resume this week, setting Monday as the day for the decision.

The 76-year-old Republican would be the first former or serving president to be charged with a crime if the authority decides to indict him.

The unprecedented development would send shockwaves through the 2024 election, in which Trump is contesting to regain office.

It might also set a precedence for a former US leader to be booked, fingerprinted, and handcuffed.

Some reports suggest that Trump favours the idea of a parade before the cameras by law enforcement, which is known as a perp walk.

As the date of the possible indictment draws close, people in and outside of the US fear protests in the country, which may possibly turn into a chaos.
