Hours after Dua was recovered by Lahore police from Okara along with a man who the police say contracted marriage with her, she appeared before the Model Town Court before Judicial Magistrate Tasawar Iqbal and recorded her statement.
In her statement to the court, she claimed to be 18-years-old, and said that she came to Lahore from Karachi by choice and was not kidnapped. She also called on the judge to reject the police's request.
Earlier today, the Punjab police claimed to have recovered 14-year-old Dua Zehra, from Okara along with a man named Zaheer Ahmad — who has reportedly contracted marriage with the child.
The Lahore police spokesperson said that Dua and Zaheer were brought to the Okara District Police Office so their statements could be recorded. They will now be shifted to Lahore with police protection.
The spokesperson also said that Karachi police have been informed by the Lahore police about the recent developments.
According to the head of Karachi's Anti-Violent Crime Cell, SSP Zubair Sheikh, a team led by Inspector Saeed Thaheem has left for Lahore.
