Murad Ali Shah was elected as the chief minister of Sindh on Monday for a third consecutive term.
The Sindh assembly convened with newly-elected speaker Awais Qadir Shah in the chair. He announced that the house would hold elections for the new chief minister.
After the elections were completed and the votes were counted, Awais Qadir Shah announced the results.
Murad Ali Shah secured 112 votes in the 168-member house and was elected chief minister. His opponent, Ali Khursheed of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), could only muster 36 votes.
Shah will become the 30th chief minister of the province. His father, Syed Abdullah Ali Shah, had also served as a chief minister of Sindh.
While this is his third term as chief minister, Shah has not spent 15 years in the role. His first stint as chief minister came in 2016 when he replaced the ageing Qaim Ali Shah in an in-house change. Shah has been a member of the provincial assembly since 2002 and a key member of the provincial cabinet since 2008.
He is expected to take his oath of office at the Governor's House later in the day.
