Following intense rainfall and heavy flash flooding in Balochistan, cellular data and internet services in the many areas of the province have been disrupted, with as many as 343 cell sites being affected.

The cities that are being reported as most affected include Lasbela, Kech, Panjgoor, Gawadar, Awaran, Ziarat, Mastung and their adjoining areas.

Around 343 cell sites belonging to the three major cellular mobile operators — Telenor, Zong and Ufone — have been affected in these cities. PTCL lines have also been disrupted due to the heavy floods.

Although Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has been working on resolving the issue, and is working with operators for the restoration of services, the local residents have been left virtually cut off from the rest of the country as the floods have also cut off road access in many parts.

Lasbela Deputy Commissioner Iftikhar Bugti said, “Heavy flash floods are approaching the dam after the catchment areas of Hub Dam, including Sarona, Dureji, Winder, Bala and other areas received heavy rains for the last 16 hours.”

Heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding have raised the death toll in the province up to 102.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said that around 6,063 houses have been demolished in the province, as well as at least 550-kilometers of a road track along the four major highways in Balochistan.
