The number of fatalities from the current monsoon season is rising as a woman died and her husband and sister were injured when the roof of their home fell in the Yar Muhammad Barohi hamlet in Shahdad Kot, Sindh.
In another event involving a roof collapse, a girl was buried alive in Allahabad, a town in the Punjabi Kasur region, where two other instances involving roof collapses wounded three people, including children, in Narang Mandi and Chunian.
After midnight, clouds began to form over eastern Punjab, and before dawn, rain began to fall in Pakpattan, Bahawalnagar, Okara, Kasur, and other places.
However, Okara has had the most rainfall, with 143mm, turning streets and highways into rivers as rainwater seeped into stores and homes, inflicting a tremendous loss on the locals.
As a result of the distribution system's inability to handle the weather fluctuations, electricity was halted in Pakpattan and the surrounding area following a four-hour rain.
Similar harsh weather is occurring in Kasur. Rainwater accumulating on streets, marketplaces, and residential areas has inundated the whole city, demonstrating once more that Pakistan's major centers, no matter how big or small, lack even a decent drainage system.
Meanwhile, rain began falling in Hyderabad at about two in the morning and persisted until daylight, turning the city's many neighborhoods and commercial districts into lakes and streams.
As additional rain is expected over the next 24 hours, Karachi, Dadu, and other areas of Sindh also saw severe downpours.
