With newer variants of the Coronavirus wreaking havoc throughout the world, Pakistan is to remain on the United Kingdom's red list after the latest travel review by the British government. The UK claims that Pakistan has failed to satisfy it on issues such as the risk of transmission and the variants of concern.

People arriving in the UK from countries on the red list have to undergo a mandatory 10-day quarantine at a cost of £2,285 per adult. Pakistan is joined on the red list by Thailand and Montenegro, as the British government believes that travelers from these countries now pose an increased risk of transmitting newer variants of the Coronavirus.

Pakistani officials had expressed the hope that the UK would move the country to its amber list, where travelers are required to quarantine only if they are not vaccinated.

Meanwhile, British authorities are moving seven countries to their green list: Canada, Denmark, Finland, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Switzerland, and the Azores. Travelers from countries on the green list are required to undergo a minimal level of testing before and after departure.
