Lieutenant General (retd) Amjad Shoaib has been arrested by the Islamabad police in Monday's early hours for inciting the public against national institutions.

According to sources, police took Lt. Gen. (retired) Amjad Shoaib into custody from his residence in the federal capital.

Sources said that a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against the former army officer at the Ramna police station yesterday evening as a result of his television interview.

According to police sources, the FIR was filed in accordance with Sections 153A and 505 of the Pakistani Penal Code.

As per the FIR, Amjad Shoaib incited people to rebel against institutions during his televised interview. He is currently being held by authorities at the Ramna police station. The police will present him before a local court this morning to obtain his physical remand.

According to the FIR, the former army officer provoked government officials and employees to stop going to offices, as it would compel the government to review its policies. The FIR read that Lt Gen (retired) Amjad Shoaib’s remarks were intended to spread hatred among the government, opposition, and government employees, which is a pre-planned conspiracy to weaken the country.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had previously summoned the former army officer on September 7 after he made allegations regarding a meeting between the Pakistani prime minister and an Israeli delegation. Yet, after being requested, he did not show up before the FIA's Cybercrime Wing.

According to Lt Gen (retired) Amjad Shoaib, the prime minister met with an Israeli delegation while visiting a Gulf country.
