A Punjab police officer, who earned praise by patiently listening to a woman, an apparent supporter of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) hurl abuse at him during the party’s long march, has released a video message saying it’s his duty to respect women.

The video, taken on Thursday in Islamabad, shows a woman screaming and hurling profanities at a policeman in the middle of the road. However, the constable did not respond, and silently kept on walking.

According to the video released by the Punjab Police on Twitter today (Friday), Constable Shahbaz is currently enrolled at the Police Training School (PTS) in Rawat, Rawalpindi. He was amongst the police personnel deployed to Islamabad as part of the security measures taken for PTI's long march on Wednesday.

Recalling the events leading up to the video, Shahbaz says his team saw some individuals setting fire to the trees, while in Islamabad. When they went up to the arsonists to reprimand them and prevent them from setting more trees ablaze, Shahbaz says a woman started following them and trailing along next to him.

"This lady started walking next to me, and she began to use very harsh language at me," he said, adding that he kept showing patience because it was a part of his training and upbringing.

He further explained that at the PTS in Rawat, police officers are instructed to always have good conduct and to be respectful, adding that the vision of the Inspector General of the police is to respect women as they are our mothers, daughters and sisters.

Shahbaz said that his family applauded him for remaining patient, as did his seniors at the police.
