"Unusual" downpours pummeled Gwadar, Jiwani, Sarbandan, and other regions of Balochistan for more than 24 hours, disrupting everyday life and submerging sections of the coastal districts.

On February 25, a rain-producing system reached the country through Balochistan, causing severe downpours and windstorms in sections of the province and the higher highlands.

Rainwater flooded homes and businesses, forcing many to leave their shelters. Videos showed the entire coastal town significantly swamped, with rain spilling down the roadways and vehicles driving through knee-deep water.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Gwadar has gotten 183mm of rain in the previous two days, Jiwani 39mm, and Sibbi and Pasni districts 2mm each.

Following the record rainfall, Gwadar's district administration declared an emergency, and rescue teams from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) left for the district.

According to PDMA Director General (DG) Jahanzaib Khan Ghorezai, team members would participate in relief efforts.

Ghorezai stated that ambulances, sophisticated equipment, and other relief goods had also been deployed. "Clean water and medicines are also being sent to Gwadar," he said.

Meanwhile, Jiwani has been severely impacted by the torrential rains, with three dams in the city breaking and boats drifting away from the sea. Furthermore, some residences' boundary walls and roofs collapsed around the city.

The streets are also inundated with rain due to a lack of an effective drainage system.

Meanwhile, Jiwani locals have been clearing rainwater on their own as rescue workers were unable to enter the area.
