Udaipur, a city in Western India was placed under partial lockdown to prevent any further communal violence after the video showing the two men attempting to behead the tailor, who has been identified as Kanhaiya Lal.
Internet access was also cut in various parts of the state of Rajasthan, while authorities issued a month-long order prohibiting gatherings of more than four people.
The funeral of the deceased tailor was to be held later in the day.
The video of the attack was shared by BJP politician Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, in which one attacker can be seen entering the victim’s shop as a customer while the other was possibly shooting the video.
The attacker grabbed the tailor by the neck while his measurements were being taken, and attacked him with a meat cleaver. The victim could be heard crying and screaming while he was being beheaded by the men.
The tailor’s body covered in plastic was seen lying outside his shop with blood overflowing on the streets.
In another video, the assailants, who identified themselves as Mohammad Riyaz and Ghouse Mohammed, were seen claiming responsibility for their actions and threatening Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the same fate.
