Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Athar Minallah, enquiring about the origin of the alleged audio leak of former chief justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar, asked that if the clip is authentic, then who has the original recording.
He issued these remarks while hearing a petition by Sindh High Court Bar President Salahuddin Ahmed and a member of the Judicial Commission, Syed Hyder Imam Rizvi.
At the onset of the hearing, the IHC CJ raised questions about the admissibility of the petition. He further stated that the court does not intend to engage in judicial activism and will take decisions based on factual evidence.
He also appreciated the role of the Bar Council in safeguarding the independence of the judiciary, adding that the court regards the petitioners for their respect of the rule of law.
Tribune reported that the court also observed that the alleged recording was related to sub judice matters and the parties involved had ‘shown no interest in bringing it before the court’.
CJ Minallah added that the court will issue a notice to the attorney-general and ask his opinion about the admissibility of the petition.
Earlier, a petition was submitted in the IHC seeking an investigation into the veracity of the alleged audiotape of former chief justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar and other events which have 'tinted the image of the judiciary'.
