Umer Taimur Tahir, a student from the Ahmadi community, was enrolled in the varsity in its Pharm-D programme on a minority quota in September. However, his admission was cancelled without a prior notice or any reason.
The university had also stated that the issue was being heard in the LHC, a claim which the court says was 'gratuitous, unwarranted and untrue'.
The student had moved the high court against the university's decision to suspend his move, He had maintained in his petition that the university treated him as an 'object and not a human being'.
In his petition, Tahir wrote, "Some event which is not discernible from the record and about which the petitioner has no information or knowledge allegedly took place by virtue of which his admission has been suspended without informing him, without hearing him, without providing any reason for the same."
Dawn reported that Justice Muhammad Shan Gul said in the judgement that the student's suspension 'amounts to persecuting the already persecuted!' He also termed this move a 'conscious disregard for minority rights'
