Punjab Appoints Retired General As Head Of Public Service Commission

Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman appointed Lt Gen (retired) Muhammad Abdul Aziz as the head of the Punjab Public Service Commission on Tuesday.

According to a notification issued by the Punjab Chief Secretary on orders of the Governor, the appointment has been made under the Punjab Public Service Commission Ordinance, 1978. The appointment has been made on a contractual basis.

The notification said that Lt Gen (retired) Aziz has been appointed for three years with "immediate effect".

Other terms and conditions of the appointment will be per the schedule appended to the Punjab Public Service Commission (Terms and Conditions of Service) Rules 2012, read with the Punjab Public Service Commission Ordinance, 1978.

It is pertinent to note here that the previous incumbent of the Punjab Public Service Commission was another retired general, Lt Gen (retired) Malik Zafar Iqbal, who spent three years in the position. Lt Gen Iqbal completed his tenure in February 2024, after which the post fell vacant.

During his service in the military, Lt Gen Aziz has served as the Corps Commander for Lahore.
