During the elections, which were held on May 29, Maulana's HDT party defeated the alliance of the Balochistan National Party - Mengal (BNP-M), National Party (NP) and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam - Fazal-ur-Rehman (JUI-F).
HDT also emerged victorious in Surbundar, the hometown of its chairperson, and is likely to win chairmanship of Municipal Committee of Gwadar, winning 27 seats on the municipal committee out of the total 30.
In Ormara however, it lost to BNP-M, which seems to be its main challenger, even in Gwadar.
According to reports, the main competition for Maulana will be BNP-M's MPA Hammal Kalmat, and it is expected that in the next elections, Maulana will go up against Hammal to compete for the seat of the MPA.
Gwadar residents are said to be fed up of Hammal, claiming that he does not spend time in Gwadar, choosing instead to reside and frequent travel between Quetta, Karachi and Muscat.
According to the party chairperson, the party is also winning seats in Pasni and Pishukan.
