Half A Century Old Bonsai Trees Go On Display In Karachi

Japanese Bonsai trees, some of which were over half a century old, have been put on display in Karachi during the 27th annual Bonsai exhibition.

A three-day exhibition, organised by the Pakistan Bonsai Society (PBS), was inaugurated by Japan's Consul General Masaru Hattori on Friday, November 29, at the famous Zamzama Park in Karachi.

Bonsai trees are grown by carving and trimming them into particular shapes and sizes. Despite their sizes, they can have a long lifespan if properly cared for. Bonsai includes 200 different species of plants and trees, ranging in age from 16 to 64 years old; it includes Bougainvillea, Clerodendrum, Tamarind, Adenium obesum, etc.

Many of the bonsai plants and trees displayed in the exhibition were more than 50 years old. Consul General Hattori and other exhibition participants greatly appreciated the skill of those who had maintained their Bonsai trees.

Pakistan Bonsai Society Patron-in-Chief General (Retired) Tariq Waseem Ghazi, Chairman Khawaja Muhammad Mazhar, Vice President Khalid Sohail and Secretary Ruby Salman were also present for the exhibition's inauguration.

The exhibition is open to the public and will continue until December 1.
