Three’s a crowd!

Protected cows

In the family

According to Daily Jang (13 August 2018) that the 2018 elections had proved to be a stroke of good fortune for female family members of a number of politicians (qismat jaag uthi), since they were able to become parliamentarians too.

Trap

Daily Jang (13 August 2018) quoted the erstwhile caretaker Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Hussain Haroon, as saying that the United States was trapping Pakistan in a quagmire (Pakistan ke atraaf jaal bicha raha hai). He was further quoted as observing that Pakistan had done at every stage what Washington wanted it to do, but it had still not been able to get a positive outcome.

No more

Naeem-ul-Haq of the PTI was quoted by Daily Express (13 August 2018) as saying that as soon as his party takes power in the country, it would move to end violence against citizens at police-stations. He stated that this would be a priority for Imran Khan, right after being sworn in as Prime Minister.

New representatives

Daily Dunya (14 August 2018) reported that Dr. Aamir Liaquat Hussain sat at the feet (qadmon mein) of Imran Khan and spoke to him for a while in the National Assembly. During this time, other parliamentarians looked on in surprise (inki taraf barri hairat se dekhtay rahay).

Suspicion

Siraj-ul-Haq of the Jamaat-e-Islami was quoted by Daily Express (17 August 2018) as saying that the Election Commission had failed to exercise its power during elections. He further stated that it seemed as though the powers of the ECP had been entrusted to someone else on the 25th of July.

Picture perfect

According to Daily Dunya (14 August 2018), when Imran Khan had to get himself registered at the National Assembly, he was advised to get the required photo taken in a black waistcoat, since it comes out better that way. At this point Khan chose not to wear the one hanging in the committee room for this purpose, and asked an employee of the Assembly to lend him his waistcoat instead.

And not a penny less!

Daily Jang (18 August 2018) reported that in his first address as Prime Minister, Imran Khan stated that by achieving power, he would bring every person to justice who had stolen Pakistan’s money. Mission accomplished
