Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has urged fans to watch his latest release -- Laal Singh Chaddha -- after calls to boycott the film have been trending on Twitter.
The trends follow in wake of Khan's controversial 2015 statement on growing intolerance in India, Times of India reported on Monday. "Our country is very tolerant, but there are people who spread ill-will," the actor had commented. Ex-wife Kiran Rao had also spoken about how she felt India was unsafe for their children.
Reacting to the trolling, Khan assured fans he loved India and urged them to watch the film. "...I feel sad. Also, I feel sad that some of the people who are saying this, in their heart, they believe that I am someone who doesn't like India. In their hearts they believe, but it is untrue. It is rather unfortunate that some people feel that way. That's not the case. Please don't boycott my film. Please watch my film,” the superstar commented when asked if the incessant trolling bothered him.
Laal Singh Chaddha is slated to release on August 11. It also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Naga Chaitanya and Mona Singh in pivotal roles.
