An Islamabad court on Thursday sent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Azam Swati to jail on a 14-day judicial remand on the request of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
As per the court's decision, Swati is to remain in jail till December 15. The decision comes a few days after the Islamabad court extended his physical remand by four days.
Azam Swati was arrested for the second time in two months by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials over tweets he had posted that were deemed ‘offensive’ to senior military officials.
In the last hearing on November 29, the FIA had requested a six-day extension in the senator's physical remand, which the court had rejected, granting a four-day remand instead that was to last till December 3.
However today on Thursday the FIA requested Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Bashir to send Swati to jail, claiming that the investigation by the agency was no complete.
“There is no need for further investigation,” the FIA investigating officer said.
Following this, the judge accepted the FIA's request and sent Swati to jail under judicial custody until December 15, and asked the police to present the senator in court on the fixed date.
