Television host Nadia Khan has been summoned by Federal Ombudsperson for Protection Against Harassment Kashmala Tariq, following a complaint from Pakistan People's Party (PPP) MPA Sharmila Faruqi for purportedly mocking her mother's appearance.
Earlier this month, Sharmila reported Nadia Khan to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) after the latter posted a video on social media in which she can be seen asking the elder Anisa Farooqi about her makeup and clothing.
“The tone and demeanour of the accused [Nadia Khan] has been a sarcastic one just to gain publicity, likes and fame based on unnecessary and irrelevant comments made to the Complainant [Ansia Farooqui]. The accused has even uploaded the video clip on her YouTube channel without seeking prior permission of the complainant which infringes upon and invades the complainant's privacy rights,” read Sharmila's complaint before the Federal Ombudsperson for Protection Against Harassment (FOSPAH).
The ombudsperson has ordered Nadia Khan to abstain from commenting on the allegations until after the hearing on February 2nd.
In a separate filing, the PPP lawmaker also served Nadia Khan with a defamation notice for Rs.50 million in compensation, as well as request for an apology within 15 days.
In response, Nadia Khan, who claimed that she was just being nice to the elder Farooqui, also announced she planned to serve a defamation notice to Sharmila for Rs.500 million in damages.
