The Lahore High Court (LHC) has received a medical report which recommends Nawaz Sharif remain in London pending further treatment for his heart, citing his ‘fragile cardiac condition’ and ongoing need for extensive medical care.
The three-page report, written by Dr. Fayaz Shawal, states that the stress of solitary confinement could "further compromise his cardiac status before definitive treatment can be rendered." It also noted that Sharif is at 'high risk' for respiratory failure and other complications from a Covid-19 infection, due to his co-morbidities, as reported by Dawn.
Instead, the report recommended the former premier be allowed to engage in "routine walks in open fields as well as stress-free physical activity." The report also highly recommended Sharif continue his treatment in London.
"These facilities [in London] have provided him the best of care so far without further acute coronary syndromes which he had sustained before his arrival to London, given his complex health issues," the report said, explaining that in addition to medical treatment, Sharif was also eating healthily and regularly exercised to improve his health.
The report confirmed that Sharif suffered from 'significant ischemia' in the distribution of his left circumflex artery, meaning that the heart does not get enough blood.
"As I mentioned in my previous evaluation that he should undergo coronary angiography to assess his coronary anatomy so that appropriate therapeutic modality could be recommended before he returns back to Pakistan," the doctor concluded, adding that the assessment could be conducted once the pandemic is over.
Nawaz Sharif's return to Pakistan had been rumored across Islamabad in recent weeks, with the will-he, won't-he speculation troubling the incumbent government while many opposition members remained mum.
