The departing caretaker government has increased fuel prices by Rs13.55 per liter for the next fortnight, as recommended by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
The current price increase comes in the midst of increasing tensions in the Middle East as Israel continues to wage assaults on Gaza. The updated POL prices take effect at midnight on February 1.
"The Government of Pakistan has decided to implement changes in the current prices of petroleum products during the fortnight beginning February 1st, 2024, as recommended by OGRA," a statement published by the Finance Division said.
Following the change, petrol now costs Rs272.89 per liter, while high-speed diesel costs Rs278.96 per liter, a Rs2.75 increase.
Furthermore, the price of kerosene oil has been reduced to Rs186.62 per liter after a Rs0.24 spike, while the price of light-speed diesel has been boosted to Rs166.86 per liter after a Rs2.03 hike.
