Heavy warfare and airstrikes bombarded Gaza City's Shujayea sector for the fourth day on Sunday, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitting his forces were fighting a "difficult fight."
Israeli tanks returned to Shujayea four days ago and fired rounds at multiple houses, trapping people inside and preventing them from leaving, according to locals.
Tens of thousands of Palestinians have left the damaged neighborhood, where the Israeli army says it has conducted raids and engaged Palestinian fighters "above and below ground" in tunnels.
Meanwhile, Israel’s opposition leader, Yair Lapid, has sought the formation of a commission to investigate Hamas' October 7 attack, denying that any conversations with Prime Minister Netanyahu are taking place in this respect, according to Al Jazeera.
"For everyone who asked, there are no contacts with Netanyahu regarding the composition of a state investigative committee," Lapid stated on X.
"There is a law, and it is clear: only the president of the Supreme Court may establish the makeup of an investigation committee. I will not engage in any games. We need an investigating committee, and it should be formed promptly."
