Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to arrive in India on Monday, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs announced on Thursday.
The MEA said Hasina is scheduled to hold "bilateral consultations" with India Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During her three-day visit Hasina will also call on President Droupadi Murmu, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankar. Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar will also call on the Bangladesh PM. Hasina is also likely to visit Ajmer.
Hasina had earlier visited New Delhi in October, 2019. "Both countries have sustained high level of engagement" in recent years, the MEA said. This includes the top tier. "The forthcoming visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will further strengthen the multifaceted relationship between the two countries based on strong historical and cultural ties and mutual trust and understanding," the statement goes on to read.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abdul Momen had said last month he had urged the Indian government to help Dhaka maintain stability and harmony. The minister had said that Bangladesh desired stability and “if we [Bangladesh and India] can do this, it will be meaningful in this golden chapter of our relations”.
Momen had said that Bangladesh remained stable whenever Hasina was in power. “The development journey remains uninterrupted when there is stability,” he had added. The Bangladesh FM had also told the Indian government Dhaka will continue to develop and become a country free of communalism under the leadership of Hasina.
