Sources with knowledge of the situation said on Saturday that the US will declare a $3 billion donation to the Green Climate Fund.
Having received over $20 billion in commitments since its creation in 2010, the fund is the biggest worldwide fund for climate action.
With this recent contribution, the United States would have contributed an extra $2 billion to the fund.
Vice President Kamala Harris will commit later on Saturday at the United Nations climate meeting in Dubai.
Part of a U.S. group that also includes climate envoy John Kerry and several senior officials, Harris is representing the United States at COP28 instead of President Joe Biden.
