Inside Out 2 recently accomplished a historical milestone. The much-anticipated sequel to the 2015 film has now become the quickest animated picture to surpass $1 billion at the global box office.
It attained the accomplishment in three weeks, when the previous record holder, Frozen 2, took 25 days.
Outside of animated films, Inside Out 2 is the 11th film to achieve this milestone. Barbie, starring Margot Robbie, was the most recent film to reach one billion dollars when it was released in 2023.
According to Variety, Inside Out 2 grossed $469.3 million in North America and $545.5 million in other countries, for a total of 1.015 billion worldwide.
On Sunday, Tony Chambers, Disney's senior vice president of theatrical distribution, responded to the news.
"We're absolutely thrilled to have reached this phenomenal milestone in record time, and it once again proves that global audiences will come out for a great movie," according to a press statement from his company.
