Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan compared himself and his Azadi March to Awami League chief Sheikh Mujibur Rehman and the fracture of East and West Pakistan during his address in Gujranwala on Tuesday.
Khan made these remarks during his long march to Islamabad, while addressing the crowd at Gujranwala. He said that Mujibur Rehman had been denied his 'electoral mandate' which had led to the splitting of the country, and warned that he too was demanding fresh elections 'like Mujib'.
"A shrewd politician [ZA Bhutto], in his greed for power, set the armed forces against the then largest party [Awami League], which had won elections, causing the dismemberment of the country," he said, adding, "At present, Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari are playing a similar role as they are trying to conspire with the establishment to block the PTI’s journey back to power."
He claimed that PTI was the 'largest and sole federal party' and yet was being 'denied' its demand for fresh election.
The long march is also facing more delays, as it had not moved beyond Gujranwala on its fifth day. Previously the long march had been expected to reach Islamabad on Friday November 4, but as per the fresh schedule given by Fawad Chaudhry, the march won't reach Islamabad even by Sunday November 6.
