The Pakistan Army has evacuated 1,991 stranded individuals and delivered 162.6 tonnes of relief items in the past 24 hours, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The military's media wing said that the army had conducted 200 helicopter sorties nationwide to evacuate the stranded and deliver relief items. Over 50,000 individuals have been shifted to safer locations from the calamity-hit areas. 147 relief camps are functioning round-the-clock in the flood-ravaged areas of Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Torrential rains have left one-third of Pakistan under water. Over a 1,000 people have lost their lives and more than 1,500 have been injured in flood-related incidents across the country. Last month, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres urged the international community to help Pakistan battle ‘epochal levels of rain and flooding’. He said that this colossal crisis requires urgent and collective action to help the government and people of Pakistan in their hour of need. Describing South Asia a ‘climate crisis hotspot’, he urged people to stop ignoring climate change.
