An anti-terror court in Islamabad on Saturday approved bail for lawyer and human rights activist Imaan Mazari.
ATC Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain approved the bail in a case registered against the lawyer in the Bara Kahu police station of Islamabad.
Zainab Janjua represented Imaan, while the police were represented by Prosecutor Raja Naveed.
After hearing the arguments, the court approved the bail plea of Mazari against surety bonds of Rs10,000. The bond was paid in court to secure her release.
Mazari had been arrested in the middle of the night from her home in Islamabad on August 20 after she made speeches at a rally organised by the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) in Islamabad. She was booked for sedition and inciting the public. She was later charged with terrorism as well. Separately, former lawmaker Ali Wazir was arrested as well.
She was granted bail and was released from Adiala Jail on August 28 but was then rearrested on the terror charge and detained.
On Friday, the court had sent her on a 14-day judicial remand, after which her counsel filed for bail.
Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court had issued a restraining order preventing her arrest in any other case. Imaan's mother, a former federal minister and PTI leader Shireen Mazari, had expressed fears that her daughter could be arrested in any other case after her release is secured.
