Members the Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) reportedly attacked a peaceful student demonstration at the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) campus earlier today (Monday), injuring at least 18 students.

Other reports claim that the students were protesting against harassment from the IJT, before they were attacked by the same group.   The PRSF claimed that the IJT has been allowed to regularly ‘terrorize’ other students on campus.

The IUII issued a press release Monday afternoon, acknowledging the ‘sad incident involving conflict between student organizations’ and said that the ‘higher administration condemns this incident and has taken strict notice of it, and will work with the district administration to take control of the situation.’

Members of the IJT have previously caused conflict on campuses across the country. In December 2021, members of the IJT were accused of ‘ransacking’ the registrar’s office at Punjab University. At an earlier incident in August 2021, two students of Punjab University were injured in an attack from IJT members.
