The European Union denounced an airstrike on the Iranian embassy in Damascus, which killed seven people, and urged regional countries to exercise caution.
Iran blamed Israel for the attack on its embassy compound in Damascus, which killed two generals and five military advisors. Israel has not claimed credit for the strike, one of the most important yet on Iranian interests in Syria.
"In this highly tense regional situation, it is imperative to show the utmost restraint," Peter Stano, a spokesperson for the executive European Commission, said in a post on X.
"The principle of the inviolability of diplomatic and consular premises and personnel must be respected in all cases and in all circumstances in accordance with international law."
Meanwhile, the death toll in Gaza has surpassed 32,900. Another 75,400 people have been reported injured.
On the other hand, the World Food Programme (WFP) stated on Wednesday that malnutrition among children in Gaza is rising at a record pace.
"WFP provides vitally needed food to 1.45 million people in Gaza every month, but as famine approaches, we need additional access. We need a cease-fire," the organization stated on X.
