Opposition parties have taken the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government to task for disregarding the National Action Plan (NAP), and have linked the rising incidents of terrorism in recent weeks to the non-implementation of the counter-terrorism and security plan.
The NAP was established in 2015 by the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) government to clamp down on terrorism in the country and support anti-terrorism offensives in the area now known as the tribal districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Opposition leaders condemned the militant attacks earlier this week on two security force bases in Balochistan and urged the government to begin following the NAP.
As reported in Dawn, Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari said that the consequences of the non-implementation of the NAP were now emerging.
“We need to eradicate nurseries of terrorists. The ones who are attacking soldiers are enemies of the country and the nation. The soldiers are the proud sons of the nation,” Mr Zardari said.
Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the armed forces who had given their lives for the security, defence and peace of the country.
"The nation is united and united to eradicate terrorism," he said in a statement on Twitter

Opposition members had also taken issue with the PTI's newly unveiled National Security Policy, which they said lacked a plan for implementation, substance, and did not include input from elected officials.
