The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) increased the electricity price by Rs 4.56 per unit on Saturday, adding to the heavy load on power consumers.
The Nepra issued a notification raising the electricity rate by Rs 4.56 per unit to pay for fuel adjustment expenses in December 2023.
It is also said that electricity consumers will have to pay higher rates in February 2024; however, this rise will not apply to Lifeline customers.
The hike in electricity tariffs will impose an additional cost of Rs 39.8 billion on electricity customers.
It is worth noting that on January 31, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) increased the power cost by Rs5.63 per unit due to the monthly fuel adjustment (MFA).
The decision was made after the Nepra concluded a hearing on the Central Power Purchasing Agency's (CPPA) appeal for an increase in power tariffs by Rs5.63 per unit under the fuel monthly adjustment for December 2023.
The authorization would impose an extra expense of Rs49 billion on electricity customers. Consumers will pay an extra amount on their next month's electricity bills. The latest tariff hike will not affect K-Electric or Lifeline customers. The Nepra stated that it would announce the detailed verdict later.
