ECP Begins Verification Of Political Parties' Financial Accounts
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), after getting powers to announce the schedule of general elections, on Monday asked all the registered political parties to submit their statement of accounts by August 29.

The commission has sought details of the statement of accounts of all political parties' financial records for the financial year 2022-2023 with mention of all requisite details.

The top election body strictly directed the political parties to submit details including income, expenses, obligations, and funding sources.

The ECP asked all political parties to also submit details of accounts' audits and chartered accountants' reports, failing which their financial statements will not be verified. The ECP also considers it mandatory for applicants to provide certificates regarding voluntary abstention from receiving funds from prohibited sources.

The electoral watchdog last week had also directed political parties to submit their applications for the allotment of election symbols ahead of the upcoming general elections.

The commission had stated that up until July 19, applications may be submitted with the party leader's signature.

The ECP instructed political parties to include a list of the symbols they prioritise with their applications, adding that the party leader's signature was required.

"The commission will not accept applications that are incomplete, or submitted through fax, and such applications will not be considered," it said.

The ECP also stated that submissions received after July 19 will not be accepted.
