Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Pervaiz Elahi has denied claims that he and Prime Minister Imran Khan discussed the opposition's no-trust motion, reiterating that the premier is 'not worried at all' about efforts to oust his government.
When pressed about the opposition's no-confidence motion, Pervaiz offered a cryptic response.
"Ingredients are in the pot and I will speak on this after smoke rises after the first boil [...] Such a large pot is on the stove. Something will come out of it," Pervaiz remarked.
The prime minister met with Pervaiz Elahi on Tuesday, as part of his efforts to solidify his base. The PML-Q is a key ally of the PTI government in the Centre and Punjab. The opposition too has called on the PML-Q, with Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) Shehbaz Sharif meeting with the elder Chaudhry Shujaat for the first time in 14 years.
Shujaat reportedly later told the prime minister that his family did not trust the Sharif's and assured the prime minister that he had the PML-Q's support.
“Shehbaz Sharif came to inquire after my health a few days ago and offered the chief ministership (of Punjab) to Ch Pervaiz Elahi (in exchange for voting against Imran Khan). However, we know them well and do not trust them. He had offered us the same slot (in the nineties), but backed off after winning the elections. The excuse was that his father did not agree to the proposal," Shujaat reportedly told PM Iman, as reported by Dawn.
Meanwhile, Pakistan People's Party (PPP) continues its long march towards Islamabad, which is expected to reach Islamabad on March 8.
