Manifesto?


 According to Daily Express (09 April 2018), the Jamaat-e-Islami’s Siraj-ul-Haq claimed that the fundamental difference between him and other politicians was that he feared God while they feared NAB. He went on to say that if God gave them an opportunity, he and his associates would put their feet on the necks of the looters (luteray) and ask them to either return their stolen money or else move to where they had stashed it.


Work ethic


Daily Jang (09 April 2018) reported that the record for the lowest attendance in National Assembly sessions was held by Ali Muhammad Mehr and PTI chief Imran Khan. These two representatives attended a total of 18 and 20 sessions respectively.


Retirement advice


Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, according to Daily Express (09 April 2018), called upon Mian Sahib (Nawaz Sharif) to spare the people (awaam ki jaan chorr dein), find a corner in which to remember God (Allah Allah karein) and seek atonement for his sins (gunaahon ki maafi maangein).

The Chairman of the Sunni Ittehad Council Sahibzada Hamid Raza, according to Daily Jang (09 April 2018), opined that before elections (intikhab) there must be accountability (ehtesab) or else there would be revolution (inquilab). He went on to observe that there was a Third World War ongoing in the world, whose target are the Muslims.


Siraj-ul-Haq on laundry matters


Daily Jang (09 April 2018) quoted Siraj-ul-Haq as saying that he cursed the current system (maujooda nizaam pe laanat bhejta hoon) and announced his revolt (baghawat ka ailaan karta hoon). Furthermore, he stated that those who change their parties would retain the stain of corruption, no matter what washing machine they went through.


New neighbours in Martin Pur


Daily Jang (11 April 2018) quoted “reliable sources” as saying that some 19 Chinese citizens living in a camp at Martin Pur, to work on the Lahore-Karachi Motorway, had caused authorities to consider some changes on an emergency basis. Reportedly, they were going to a local church to pray, which meant the authorities had to provide extra security. They had also participated in a rally taken out by local people over some issue, even though authorities had asked them to refrain from such activities. Authorities had also asked them not to take their goats to graze outside on their own.


The cop who wasn’t


Daily Jang (11 April 2018) reported that police in Lahore, during a patrol, had arrested one fake (jaali) policeman by the name of Akhtar, who was now under investigation for his activities.


The Maulana’s analysis


Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, according to Daily Jang (11 April 2018), opined that while there were atrocities being committed against Muslims across the world, enlightened people (roshan-khyaal) were thinking of implementing a Western agenda as a successful strategy in the country. He also stated that there were some frivolous elements in politics (siyasi chichoray), who the people ought not to waste any attention on.


Tax net


Daily Dunya, reporting on the remarkably low taxes paid by Pakistani political leaders, noted among other points that Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman paid fewer taxes than even Jamshed Dasti. Meanwhile, Chaudhry Nisar, the owner of 684 kanals and 2 marlas of land, paid agricultural taxes of Rs. 450.


Loyalist


Chaudhry Nisar was quoted by Daily Nawa-i-Waqt (13 April 2018) as saying that he was proud of the loyalty he had shown to the party and its leadership for 34 years. He continued, saying that if Nawaz Sharif still suspected his loyalty, then his life lived in loyalty had been entirely in vain (sab ki sab bekaar).

According to Daily Nawa-i-Waqt (14 April 2018), PTI chief Imran Khan believes Pakistan’s biggest jail was being cleaned up in preparation for Pakistan’s biggest thief, and that the doors and walls of the jail were anxiously awaiting Nawaz Sharif.
