Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said that another resolution will be tabled in the National Assembly against the verdict of the three-member SC bench in the Punjab elections case, tomorrow.
The coalition government made the decision in a meeting today, participated by the senior leadership of the parties.
The huddle reviewed the situation emerging out of the top court's decision and the overall political situation.
A day earlier, the Federal Cabinet rejected the decision of the top court of postponing the polls to October 8.
Moreover, PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif rejected the SC verdict in the Punjab elections case, urging the masses to rise against it.
“Why is so much effort being made to bring one man to power again,” the three-time prime minister asked while talking to journalists, in London.
He added that the people must rise against the decision because “these people are destroying the country.”
In his statement, he also said that a reference should be filed against the three judges with the Supreme Judicial Council as the decision is a charge-sheet against themselves. “The bench refused to accept a majority decision.”
Nawaz opined that the decision of the bench was a minority decision, against the majority of other judges.
In its verdict, the Supreme Court declared the ECP's decision regarding the postponement of elections in Punjab as null and void.
A three-member bench, led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial and including Justices Ijaz Ul Ahsan and Munib Akhtar, announced the decision.
In its ruling, the Supreme Court deemed the election body’s decision to hold elections on October 8 “unconstitutional” and mandated that they take place on May 14 in Punjab.
The ruling also stated that the Punjab government shall provide the Election Commission with a security plan. It further stated that a report on the electoral personnel should be submitted to ECP by April 10 by the caretaker government and chief secretary of Punjab.
