Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that dictatorship in the apex court would not be tolerated, demanding the Supreme Court (SC) constitute a larger bench.
Bilawal expressed these views while speaking at the PPP’s founder and former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's anniversary. He criticized the judiciary's authoritarian mindset and called for an end to the constitutional crisis.
The PPP chairman asked all parties involved to pay attention, stating that Pakistan's citizens would pay a high price for this risky experiment. In addition, he underlined the necessity of free and fair elections and said that the nation should be set free from its constitutional problem.
He said that a larger bench should be established, and everyone is prepared to accept its decision in order to resolve the current political situation. He expressed his hope that the Chief Justice of Pakistan would be remembered favorably by future generations.
In addition, Bilawal claimed that the 2018 election was rigged by the previous establishment and the highest court, claiming that former Chief Judge Justice (r) Saqib Nisar supported Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in order to avoid punishment. He also criticized the Supreme Court's decision to permit Pervez Musharraf to change the Constitution.
He also emphasized the necessity of preserving democracy and reestablishing Pakistan's institutions, saying that the nation's fate was being played with and that the people had the right to elect the country's prime minister.
Bilawal stated that the PPP and its jiyalas (die-hard workers) have sacrificed much for the benefit of the nation, the system, and the institutions.
No one else can save the Supreme Court from itself; therefore, it must save itself, he said.
Bilawal noted that Zulifkar Ali Bhutto's sacrifices for the country and its growth of democracy will always be remembered. "Bhutto is still present in people's hearts, and that is why we are pursuing his goal," he added.
