A Medina court has convicted six Pakistanis for violating the sanctity of the Prophet's Mosque (Masjid-e-Nabwi).
The court awarded 10-year jail terms to Anas, Irshad and Muhammad Saleem. Khawaja Luqman, Muhammad Afzal, and Ghulam Muhammad were handed down an eight-year term. The convicts have also been fined Saudi Riyal 20,000 each.
Scores of Pakistani pilgrims allegedly affiliated with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had encircled the delegation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at Islam's second-holiest site. The individuals had raised slogans and heckled those comprising the delegation. The incident was panned nationwide by religious and political notables. Saudi authorities had swiftly detained those involved and initiated legal proceedings soon after.
