TV news analyst and journalist Hassan Nisar has stirred controversy on social media for his remarks on air recently, where he expressed his view that the current government ought to be given at least 15 years of uninterrupted rule and that “anyone who speaks of democracy ought to be shot with ammunition paid for by their own family.” In yet another instance which is being discussed on social media, Nisar opined that if it were up to him, he would smite the neck of anyone (mere bas mein ho tu mein uski gardan urra doon) who says that Prime Minister Imran Khan was brought to power by someone (laye gae laye gae).
Having repeated his startling statement, Nisar went on to explain that in his view all the political leadership, be it Nawaz Sharif or even Zulfikar Ali Bhutto himself, were brought to power (laye gae) in the same way. He further noted that in his view, the situation under the current government was neither all good nor all bad.
In his remarks on another recent programme, Nisar had called for 15 years of uninterrupted rule, saying:
“Pakistan needs uninterrupted 15 years of authoritarian rule to fix everything from primary education to population control. Anyone mentioning democracy should be dealt by a firing squad and his family should pay for the bullets fired on him. It’s our moral job to try and give Imran Khan 5 years uninterrupted.”
