Over 290mm of rain fell in Lahore in 10 hours on Wednesday, shattering a record that had stood for 30 years, according to Commissioner Lahore Mohammad Ali Randhawa.
According to the official, more than a dozen regions in the metropolis recorded more than 200mm of rain during the city's 291mm of rain, and this is happening as a result of climate change and powerful monsoons.
The Lakhsmi Chowk section of the city received 291mm of rain, as did Nishter Town (277mm), Qurtaba Chowk (270mm), Gulshan-e-Ravi (268mm), Pani Wala Talab (268mm), Johar Town (260mm), Tajpura (249mm), and Iqbal Town (232mm), according to the Wasa Monsoon Control Room.
The city was immobilized by the rainstorm that began earlier in the day since all of the main roads and connected streets were flooded, making commuting difficult. The knee-deep water on the highways caused several car breakdowns.
While the electricity was off, rainwater seeped into the homes in low-lying regions, making life even more miserable.
Biker Electrocuted In Lahore
An electric cable broke in Chungi Amar Sadhu due to heavy rainfall and fell on the road, resulting in the sudden death of a 22-year-old motorcyclist identified as Usman. As per the residents of the locality, the body of the victim remained in the water for several hours, and no personnel from the authority concerned came to get the body out of the water.
Casualties In KP
According to media reports, at least three people perished in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa areas as a result of rain-related accidents.
CM Naqvi’s visit
According to Punjab caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, record-breaking rainfall led to urban floods, while severe rains forced the canal to overflow.
